Please take a moment today to recognize Veterans Day for if it weren’t for the men and women who served our country, America wouldn’t be the “land of the free and home of the brave”.
New Bern and surrounding areas have a large number of veterans living among us. You may not even know that your neighbor was in the military because a lot of veterans don’t brag about what they’ve sacrificed for our country…they are humble servants. There are others who may not want to talk about their service because it was a very difficult time in their lives, from serving in a war zone, being injured, or experiencing traumatic events.
Veterans come from all walks of life and have served in countless ways. They continue to serve our community in numerous ways. From working at homeless shelters and volunteering with service organizations, to helping other veterans cope with life after the military.
There are so many veterans groups in our community, here’s a few that I would like to personally thank the: Craven County Veterans Council, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2514, Veterans Organic Garden, NC Works Employment Office, American Legion Post 24, American Legion Post 539, Elks Lodge 764, Coastal Carolina Military Officers Association, Craven County Veterans Services, NC Disabled American Veterans Chapter 40, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 886, USO of North Carolina at the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport, and all of the community service organizations who contribute to the well being of area veterans.
Please consider supporting our local veteran organizations as they make a difference in the lives of those who served.
Whatever your duties were, you all served a mission and I want to thank you for all that you endured for our freedoms!
