You don’t have to face your hearing loss alone. Visit our chapter and talk with others who also have hearing loss. HLAA opens the world of communication to people with hearing loss through information, education, advocacy, and support. People with all degrees of hearing loss come together to share and learn. You can learn about the many tools, and the latest technology such as hearing aids, phones, cochlear implants, captioning, and assistive listening devices. HLAA is working to end the stigma associated with hearing loss and encourage treatment and prevention.
We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every month (except November and December) at 11:00 a.m. at McCarthy Court Apartments, 1325 McCarthy Blvd. New Bern, NC 28562. We meet in The Common Room which has a Hearing Loop installed for anyone with hearing aids equipped with a T-Coil. At our monthly meetings we have different guest speakers covering a wide range of hearing related topics.
Our first meeting of the year is January 27th at 11:00 a.m. and our guest speaker is Taylor Sands, the Consumer Outreach Manager from MED-EL. The program will provide a basic overview of Cochlear Implants, how they work, what they do, what the surgery entails. Taylor will also share some auditory rehabilitation activities that you can use to better improve your listening skills.
