Ratio Presents Tony Award Winning Comedy

Joey Infinito and Krissy Boccia

Thursday, November 1, is opening night for Ratio Theatre Company’s second production of their season, the hit comedy, God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton at Cullman Performance Hall in the North Carolina History Center, New Bern. Scheduled show dates are; November 1,2,3 and 9, 10,11 Sponsored by Hearne’s Fine Jewelers, the performances are included in this year’s Tryon Palace Performing Arts Series.

God of Carnage, winner of the 2009 Tony Award for best play, opens on two sets of parents meeting for the first time to settle their sons’ nasty schoolyard tangle. All attempts at civilized discussion quickly devolve into childlike behavior in this fast, furious, and very, very funny comedy of bad manners. Ratio co-founder, Alan Berger directs a cast comprised of three Ratio Theatre Company veterans; K.R. Hamm as Alan Raleigh, Ratio’s Artistic Director Joey Infinito as Michael Novak, and Andrea Owens, Ratio’s Managing Director as Annette Raleigh.  Krissy Boccia, newcomer to the Ratio stage; makes her Ratio debut as Veronica Novak.  “Dysfunction and diversity,  hysterics and firecracker conflict … these are the ingredients that make God of Carnage a Tony Award winning, world class, side-splitting, thoroughly adult comedy. When you put this material in the hands of an all-star cast, the results are like a gourmet dining experience, you arrive with mouthwatering expectations and leave thoroughly satisfied, but wanting more,” said Alan Berger.

Author, Yasmina Reza is a multi-award-winning French playwright, actress, novelist, and screenwriter.  Her work has been translated into over 30 languages and continues to be produced worldwide.  She is the author of seven plays including Ratio Theatre Company’s inaugural production, ART.  The New York Times wrote of Reza; “She is a born satirist, a gifted and wry observer of the absurdities and feints of social life (….) and of the small self-deceptions that help us all survive.”
