International Paper funds a Fall and Spring Cycle grant each year that provides assistance to Craven County Schools’ educators for hands-on activities in math and science for up to $250 per grant. This grant program, administered by Partners In Education, allows our teachers the opportunity to purchase materials for activities in their classroom without spending money out of their own pocket. The winners of the Fall Cycle are John Scarfpin, Havelock High; Tonya Gent, Creekside Elementary; Ashley Fillingame, James W. Smith Elementary; and Rebecca Sanchez, Trent Park Elementary.
Pictured are, accepting the awarding on behalf of their teachers, principals (L-R) Stacie Deaton Friebel, Havelock High; Angie Franks, Creekside Elementary; Sherri Nichols Thomas, James W. Smith Elementary; and Thomas Wilson, for Trent Park Elementary. Also pictured are PIE board members (l-r) David Baxter, PIE president; Dr. Neshawn Dawson; Debra Hurst; William Bryan Byland; Dr. Ervin Patrick; representing International Paper, Catherine Burgess; and 2nd Vice President, Daniel Rhyne.
