Offers Students Onsite College Visits
New Bern, NC – New Bern High School will be hosting a Career Fair on Monday, October 21, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Grover C. Fields Middle School and H.J. MacDonald Middle School will be bringing their 8th grade classes from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. to visit the fair and take a tour of the campus. Each student will participate in a scavenger hunt to find businesses that will “pay for college”, “have internships”, “require certifications”, and many other important facts they need to know when looking for employment and thinking about their future.
There will be 47 businesses onsite from New Bern and Kinston. The businesses cover Career and Technical Education pathways such as Agriculture, Foods, Natural Resources, Arts, Education, Finance, Health Science, Human Services, Hospitality & Tourism, Law, Public Safety, Manufacturing, Government, Correction & Security, and STEM. New Bern High students currently enrolled in Marketing Applications and AVID Ambassadors will be assisting the businesses in set up and guiding 8th grade tours. The New Bern High School Firefighting class will be directing traffic and also assist with 8th grade tours. Harris Teeter, which will be attending, will provide light refreshments for the morning. The Culinary Art class will prepare lunch for the participating businesses.
In the afternoon, The CACRAO College Fair will visit New Bern High from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Over 50 colleges will be present including Craven Community College, UNC System and Independent Colleges. Some out of state colleges will also be present. Students should register for a QR code at gotocollegefairs.com so that their information can be scanned at each college table. Students should consider dressing nicely and asking good questions.
The CACRAO College Fair will visit all three traditional high schools next week with the following schedule:
- 21 8 – 9 a.m. West Craven High School
- 21 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. New Bern High School
- 22 9 – 10 a.m. Havelock High School
Early College EAST and Craven Early College High Schools will be attending one of the sessions as well.
