Clayton Cheek, partner of the Law firm Oliver & Cheek, was elected as the new president of the Rotary Club of New Bern during the recent installation Banquet at the New Bern Country Club. Cheek (2nd left) succeeds Dave Baxter (top left) for the Rotary year July ’19 – June ’20. Summarizing the past Rotary year, Dave Baxter was proud to report that the amount of grants to worldwide and community projects and scholarships exceeded $48,000, including major support for a new Children’s Clinic in Bamako, Mali, Africa and a new children’s park in Trent Woods. The club’s signature projects: Sham-Rockin’ St Patrick’s Celebration is in the planning stage for its 5th year and Mumfest banner sales are completing its 7th year. The Rotary Club of New Bern will celebrate its 100th Anniversary this October. It is the 3rd largest club in the 41 club district of Eastern North Carolina with 85 members and growing. Meetings are held Tuesdays at 1PM at the Chelsea Restaurant.
