CAC&G seeking artists of all varieties for September Exhibition
Deadline to enter: August 15
Exhibition: September 5 – October 1, 2019
Craven Arts Council and Gallery is seeking artist submission for “Safe from the Storm: Memories of Florence,” an exhibition for the one year anniversary of Hurricane Florence’s landfall in North Carolina, its effects, and the reconstruction afterwards. The exhibition is free to enter and will take place in the Main Gallery at Bank of the Arts in September 2019.
In September 2018 Hurricane Florence made landfall in the Southeastern United States, resulting in widespread flooding of homes and businesses, hundreds of thousands of power outages, extensive agricultural damage, and the deaths of more than 30 people. In the aftermath of the storm local communities began the long process of rebuilding with the support of neighbors and thousands across the country donating time, money, and supplies to help those affected. Eastern North Carolina and New Bern in particular were an epicenter of the storm surge and resulting damage, affecting everyone in our community.
For the one year anniversary of Hurricane Florence’s landfall, Craven Arts Council & Gallery will host “Safe from the Storm: Memories of Florence,” an exhibition about the effects of the hurricane and the spirit of resiliency and support that emerged in our community. The exhibition is open to artists in a variety of disciplines, including visual, literary, dance, music, and more. Artists are asked to read the submission guidelines at cravenarts.org and register before August 16th, 2019. Brian Cardoza will also operate several workshops at the July Saturday Sessions for children to create 5’’x5’’ pieces for the exhibition
Craven Arts Council will host an opening reception for the exhibition during the downtown New Bern Artwalk, September 13, from 5 p.m. – 8.p.m. The reception will feature visual arts on display, as well as opportunities for non-visual artists to present their writings, music, or dance submissions to the public. The exhibition will also offer alternate opportunities for non-visual artists to present their work as part of the exhibition, listed in the categories below.
“Safe From the Storm” will be operated in conjunction with Florence remembrance and recovery events operated by Craven County Disaster Recovery Alliance, Artastico, and others.
