New Bern, NC – The Craven County Veteran’s Council and the New Bern National Cemetery celebrates Memorial Day, May 27th to honor veterans that served our country in times of war and peace. The ceremony will commence at 11 a.m. at the New Bern National Cemetery, 1711 National Avenue.
The Memorial Day program will consist of the Invocation, presentation of the National Colors, singing of the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, the introduction of Gold Star Mothers, and a reading of the Gettysburg Address. Our guest speaker is RDML Jay Deloach, USN (Ret). The close of the program follows with the placing of organizational wreaths which will include a new wreath dedicated to the veterans of the Iraq-Afghanistan wars and multiple peace keeping deployments around the world. The program will conclude with a ceremonial rifle salute and the sounding of Taps.
Complementary water and limited seating is provided, however it is suggested that attendees bring personal weather protection and lawn chairs. This is a rain or shine event. Should we encounter sever weather, please take personal precautionary measures until the treat has passed.
