U.S. Cellular and Mayor Dana Outlaw announced the three winners of its fifth annual Black History Month Art Competition with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain at a celebration at the New Bern club.
In January, club members created original pieces of artwork in recognition of influential African-Americans, including business people, athletes, historical figures and celebrities. The 10 finalists’ art was displayed in U.S. Cellular stores during the month of February, where the New Bern community voted for their favorites.
The winning artists were awarded the following prizes:
Keke Lewis received $250 for 1st Place
Maddie Steidl received $150 for 2nd Place
Leila Mullis received $100 for 3rd Place
“The creativity, talent and knowledge that came through in these kids’ artwork was amazing to see, and it was a privilege to showcase them in our stores during Black History Month,” said Jeremy Taylor, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in eastern North Carolina. “Celebrating with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain youth in New Bern was a great way to honor our country’s diversity and commemorate African-American icons both past and present.”
U.S. Cellular’s Black History Month Art Contest is funded and supported by the company’s Network of Black Associates, an Associate Resource Group dedicated to creating a diverse company culture that attracts, develops and retains Black associates.
