Ship Modeling Club

The New Bern Maritime Modelers Guild is being formed in New Bern, N.C.

The purpose is to organize a group of modelers, to foster an interest in Nautical Heritage by researching and building scale model ships.

This club is for anyone (beginners, to experienced modelers) who display and have an interest in model ship building to keep the hobby and the art of modeling alive for future generations.

The group will share information on shipbuilding techniques for beginners to experienced modelers utilizing materials of wood, metal, resin, photo-etched, and plastic.

Commercial kits or scratch-built models, stages of modeling ship construction from selecting a kit for beginners to advanced layout and scratch building from plans, or commercial kits of different levels of skill and experience.

Show and tell on various stages of construction or completed models, current events pertaining to maritime heritage, workshops and class instructions on how to, build a model.

Organize and participate in local shows to stimulate an interest in this art to the public.

Goal is for all members to enjoy the hobby and to get satisfaction of completing and displaying their work in a non-competitive environment and meeting new friends.

Join us on the second Saturday of each month (next meeting April 12) at 1 p.m. at the “Shop Class” Building located at 406 Guion St., in New Bern, N.C.
