Famous Bakery is proud to announce a unique give-away to celebrate its two-year anniversary on February 9, 2018. Starting this month, and continuing throughout 2018, the bakery will be awarding one elementary school classroom with a cupcake party. Interested teachers can send an e-mail and explain why their students deserve a celebration featuring the best cupcakes in town. One winner will be chosen each week!
Famous Restaurant has been a New Bern staple for more than 30 years, but the thought of adding a bakery has been brewing for the past few years. Owners Tony and Georgia Vogiatzis decided to design and build a bakery after Georgia attended a baking class in Vermont just over two years ago. There she met nationally-known consultant Jeffrey Hamelman of King Arthur Flour Company, who agreed to help develop a bakery operation for the restaurant. Hamelman is a member of Certified Master Bakers and is a past captain and coach of Baking Team USA and his input helped make Famous Bakery the well-oiled operation it is today.
The two-story, 5,000 square foot addition made its debut in February of 2016 and Vogiatzis says she was “blessed to have three elementary school educators with her to help navigate the opening process.” She says, “Mrs. Hemphill, Mrs, Pike, and Mrs. Briggs were so wonderful and I feel the weekly cupcake parties are a great way to show my appreciation.”
About Famous Restaurant
Tony Vogiatzis opened Famous Restaurant in 1983 to share a love for his native Greek cuisine and Italian meals—especially the recipes handed down from his mother. Having worked in his family’s restaurant in Greece prior to the family moving to America, Tony had the experience to go with the passion and he had the support of his parents. Through hard work, providing great food, and dedication to quality service, 30 years later, Famous is still using the Vogiatzis family recipes often prepared by Tony’s mother Eleni and wife, Georgia.
