Local pet sitter/dog walker earns certification to ease pets’ fear, anxiety during visits
Can you imagine what it is like for your pet when you go to work, leave for a business trip, go out of town for a vacation? What if your pet is a little shy, fearful, needs medication, doesn’t like being left alone too long? How do you know if the person that you hired for your pets’ care is a caring person?
Local pet owners won’t have to imagine if the pet sitter they hired is providing kind and gentle care if that pet sitter is Jeanne Crockett of Crockett’s Critter Care or a member of her team. Owner, Jeanne Crockett, is now recognized as a Fear Free Professional, having recently passed the Fear Free Certification Program. This training will help Jeanne and her team implement positive handling procedures and fear free methods designed to lower stress, anxiety, and fear which will help pets feel safe and comfortable while receiving the attention that they need.
Jeanne learned about the Fear Free Program at the Pet Sitters International Conference last September. The key note speaker was Dr. Marty Becker, DVM, and the founder of this program. What she heard inspired her to become a Fear Free Certified Professional and apply these Fear Free methods to her pet sitting and dog walking service. To become certified, Jeanne completed a comprehensive, 8-part educational course and exam. Plus, she plans to take continuing education to remain certified.
“When Dr. Becker was speaking, I could see so many uses to apply this training to pet sitting and dog walking. After all, I administer medicine to pets, walk fearful or reactive dogs on a leash, transport a client’s pet to the vet. When I am in a pet’s home, I am a stranger until they get to know and like me. It’s important for us both to have a pleasant visit.” These animals and their humans need and deserve it.
