Federal employees will step up in record numbers to feed the hungry again this year for the 4th annual Chapter 21 Federal Managers Association (FMA) 5K Fun Run/1 Mile Walk on Saturday May 21, 2016. Registration can be done online at https://runsignup.com/Race/Events/NC/Havelock/FedsFeedFamilies5K. The fee is $20 which includes an event tee-shirt. Medals will be awarded for the top three men, women, and children under 18. If you don’t want to run or walk but still want to help out, donations can also be made online at the same website.
The United States Department of Agriculture leads the feds feed families (FFF) campaign each summer through the end of August. Since the campaign began in 2009, federal workers have collected and donated more than 24 million pounds of food and other nonperishable items to support families across America. Last year alone, Feds donated nearly 9 million pounds of food. Teams collect the food, distribute it to local food banks, and report the number of pounds donated to FFF. Our local Chapter expects to exceed last year’s achievement, equivalent to 9,366 pounds reported to FFF, with the combination of food and cash donations.
FMA members will kick off the 2016 campaign by hosting its 5K Fun Run/1 Mile Walk in front of Wells Wayside Furniture in Havelock, NC with mile markers throughout the Tucker Creek Subdivision. Registration begins at 7:00am and the 5k will kick off at 8:00am. The 1 mile walk will begin at 8:10am.
Participants will open their hearts and run/walk for this rewarding cause. They will donate money for food as a way of paying it forward and helping our local communities, which is at the heart of true public service.
