7th Annual “RED Day” helps Veterans Organic Garden

Keller Williams New Bern is part of community service initiative across the globe

Keller Williams Realtors closed their doors on May 14th for the National Keller Williams RED Day to ‘Renew, Energize, and Donate’ their time at the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Garden.

Project Leader, Kathy Richey told us about their annual special community giving project that was founded “to honor our culture keeper, Mo Anderson”. “Every year, we close our doors and go out into the community where we live and work to volunteer our hours.

Kathy was excited to announce that “this year we had over 48 people turn out to donate their time and talents”.

Susan Braaten provided the below information about this special day:

Although Keller Williams associates took the day off, it was hardly a day of rest. Associates with the New Bern Market Center have chosen to “Give Where They Live” as part of RED Day, the company’s annual day of service, dedicated to renewing, energizing, and donating to their local communities.

As part of the RED Day effort, KW New Bern has chosen to spend the day with the Veteran Employment Base Camp and Organic Garden at 901 Chapman Street in New Bern. The Veteran Employment Base Camp and Organic Garden (VEBCOG) mission is to provide transitional employment for homeless and disadvantaged veterans. In addition they will provide a location for the rehabilitation of disabled veterans using Horticulture Therapy.

“RED Day is built on the belief that people can and should come together to achieve extraordinary things to help others,” said Team Leader Susan Venters.  “Last year, we brought McCarthy Court and Home Place of New Bern a Day to Remember, refreshing their gardens, hosting a bingo blitz, and assisting with a fundraising barbecue for Alzheimer’s research. We can’t tell you what an impact it made on each of us personally. We all know that filling all the gaps in our communities can’t be accomplished by serving just once a year. RED Day just happens to be the one-day expression of the constant state of the Keller Williams culture. We see a need, discover who can meet it and get it done.”

Since the first RED Day in 2009, Keller Williams associates have given hundreds of thousands of hours of community service through activities ranging from food and blood drives to rebuilding homes and schools for community members in need. To this day, it is one of the largest events in the real estate industry.
