Craven Community College’s Student Clubs launch Shoe Donation Drive

Craven Community College Shoe Drive

The student clubs and organizations of Craven Community College (CCC) launched their shoe donation drive today that will run until Monday, November 24, 2014. Proceeds from the sale of donated shoes benefit student clubs. Student clubs raise money to fund educational and enrichment activities.

In honor of CCC’s 50th anniversary, the student clubs are challenging themselves to collect 50,000 pairs of shoes from the community.

CCC Student Services is working with ReRun Shoes (www.rerunshoes.com), who will pay the clubs for the donated shoes. ReRun Shoes is based in Holyoke, Ma., and recycles donated shoes. ReRun employs adults with disabilities to prepare the shoes for export to African nations where shoes are provided as inventory to micro-businesses.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for student organizations to raise funds and pay it forward at the same time,” said Kimberley Clark, campus life assistant and student.

CCC is accepting the following gently used shoes: athletic shoes, sports cleats, men’s shoes, women’s shoes, women’s flats and low-heeled shoes, kid’s shoes, and sport sandals.
