The New Bern Area Shriners are having their 47th annual Fish Fry on Friday April 25th. The proceeds from the event will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children and help to treat the more than 600 plus children from Sudan territory, basically eastern North Carolina. The majority of these children are treated at the Shriners Hospitals located in Greenville, South Carolina and Cincinnati, Ohio. The Fish plates will consist of trout, french fries, slaw and hushpuppies at a cost of $7.00.
Plates will be served at four locations: The New Bern Shrine Club, 2102 Glenburnie Rd., beside Burger King on Neuse Blvd., Bridgeton in the Food Lion parking lot and at Harley Davidson, James City, Hwy 70 East. Serving times are from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Deliveries will be made if requested for ten or more plates in the city. Call the New Bern Shrine Club at 638-1277.
Logistics for the event:
Will be serving 3,500 pounds of trout fish
175 gallons of slaw
Half ton french fries
Half ton hushpuppies
120 – 4 gallon cans of cooking oil will be used to cook the food
Approximately 180 Shriners and their Ladies and volunteers from Masonic Lodges will be preparing and serving more than 5,000 plates. Anyone wishing to help, please come to the New Shrine Club or the site nearest you at 10:00 a.m. on April 25th.
The average profits from the fish fries over 45 years have been about $24,000 for a total of approximately $1,080,000.
