Thea Kincaid and I enjoyed our visit with our friend, Richard Blythe at the Birthplace of Pepsi in Downtown New Bern.
Wanting to learn more about the 10th Annual BBQ in Blue Jeans, we met with Richard as he was a Chief of the New Bern Fire Department and is actively involved in restoring the New Bern Firemen’s Museum and one of the driving forces behind the fun-filled annual “BBQ in Blue Jeans” event that raises money for the Museum.
This isn’t “just another fundraiser” as I’ve been to the BBQ in Blue Jeans and had a blast!
The event is catered by Tommy Moore, owner of Moore’s Ole Time BBQ; Guinness World Record holder; and Recipient of the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award. Although I consider Tommy to be a legend in New Bern, he is a very humble man who truly believes in helping our community. He doesn’t let his accomplishments cloud his judgment. Tommy and his team are proud to work hard and be able to contribute to special causes in our community.
Moore’s BBQ and the New Bern Sun Journal are the Title sponsors, but BBQ in Blue Jeans wouldn’t happen without all the sponsors that will be highlighted in the event’s program. I believe this annual event is a gauge to our community coming together for the greater good.
All proceeds benefit the New Bern Firemen’s Museum. Are you wondering how this impacts our community? Well, the Firemen’s Museum is a key part of the history that shaped our town. During the restoration of the Old Central Fire Station, they are working to create exhibits dating back over 100 years along with showing the history of how the Great Fire of 1922 re-shaped New Bern’s Cityscape. They’re working on interactive children’s exhibits and much more!
Come in your blue jeans for a delicious barbeque dinner from Moore’s Barbeque including ribs, chicken, sides and dessert. Don’t forget your dancing shoes! Dance to Cold Biscuit and 3 Day Weekend! Catch up with old friends and meet new ones!
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Get your tickets at Mitchell Hardware, New Bern Fire Department on Broad St., New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, and the New Bern Firemen’s Museum. If you want to buy a table of 10, please purchase tickets at the Firemen’s Museum.
For details call 252-636-4087 or visit the New Bern Firemen’s Museum’s website.
