What is Bohemian Night during ArtWalk?

Although I’m not an artist, I’ve become an art enthusiast and supporter.

Before I became friends with local artist and graphic designer, Lisa Bisbee, a few years ago, I attended and wrote about many arts related events around town. At that time, I really didn’t understand the impact that arts had on our community.

Lisa introduced me to New Bern’s “Art World”!

Since then, I’ve taken time to “smell the roses”, as it’s a metaphor to describe how I feel about various art mediums: paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and many other handmade crafts.

My first impressions of New Bern artists began at the Bank of the Arts, Carolina Creations, New Bern Artworks and Company, Michaele’ Rose Watson Gallery, and many other Art shops and galleries in and around town. I was very impressed!

When Lisa Bisbee and Mike Lentz (owner of MJ’s Raw Bar and Grille) opened the Greater Good Gallery and Isaac Taylor Garden at the beginning of 2013, Lisa offered a place for New Bern Now to meet clients. That’s how I really became involved in Bohemian Nights, as the Gallery is NBN’s corporate headquarters.

The above video slide show highlights pictures that were taken at the last Bohemian Night in May. If I had more time, I would’ve made rounds at all of the businesses involved in ArtWalk, including the New Bern Farmers Market (as I’ve done over the past two years).

I’m looking forward to ArtWalk Downtown New Bern on July 12 from 5 – 8pm to visit more art galleries and participating businesses.

To find out what businesses are participating during the July ArtWalk, please visit the Craven Arts Council at their temporary location at the Cook House, 308 George Street, check out their website, or call them at 252-638-2577.
