Charity Golf Tournament to benefit Austin Copsey

Austin Copsey

On Saturday, February 9th, 2013 at 11am at Carolina Pines Golf and Country Club we will be having a charity golf tournament to benefit Austin Copsey and his family.

Austin Copsey is a 14 year old boy who goes to West Craven High School. He is the grandson of Tim Johnson and the nephew of Shawn Copsey.

On December 28, 2012 Austin was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He has a tumor in his pancreas and multiple tumors in his liver. The doctors have diagnosed him with hepatoblastoma, which is cancer of the liver, but he also has cells of pancreatoblastoma, which is cancer of the pancreas.

On Monday January 7th Austin went to Duke University Hospital in Durham to start his chemotherapy treatments. The treatments include 4 different drugs.  He will receive one drug on a weekly basis. Every 21 days he will receive 3 drugs that will be administered over 7 hour period and require a 2-3 day hospital stay. The goal of these treatments is to shrink the tumors so that surgery can be performed to remove them. More chemotherapy and radiation may follow if the doctors feel it is necessary.

If you would like to help Austin and his family please come out and play in our tournament!  Your help is greatly appreciated!
