>The “Printing Press” has come a LONG way since its concept dating back to the 1400s or earlier! We’ve moved into the “Digital Age”.
Have you ever visited a printing plant? My memories date back to visiting a press in the late 1970s during my visit to the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, DC. That was my first and last experience seeing a true printing press. To be honest, the only thing I remember is seeing massive amounts of money on sheets of paper on a conveyor belt through glass (probably bullet-proof). That was, until I recently toured the impressive NCCOAST Communications Printing Plant!
NCCOAST Communications Printing and Publishing Company have two large printing presses. Each has a different operation, but produce large quantities of high quality products. They create magazines, booklets, posters, pamphlets, brochures, business cards, direct mailings, and more!
After my visit, I was intrigued to learn more about the history and operation of the printing press. Since the inception of the concept, I learned it was practiced as an “art form”. This is why graphic artists are in high demand in the print industry! They are truly artists with a special gift to create a unique layout ready for the production line.
