>Are you or someone you know hearing impaired or deaf? Then know there is local support in New Bern!
Did you know that approximately 36 million Americans suffer from some type of hearing loss?
I hadn’t thought about living without my sense of hearing until I met Mr. Jerry Tamber. Jerry suffers from hearing loss and after our meeting; I counted my blessings for being so fortunate to be able to hear. I can’t imagine not being able to hear people speak, hear emergency announcements on the radio, listen to music, hear the birds sing, and everything else for that matter!
Jerry Tamber moved to New Bern from Florida to be closer to his family. He was the President of the largest Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) in Florida. When he discovered that New Bern didn’t have a HLAA Chapter, his determination in helping others motivated him in establishing a local Chapter.
Please join Jerry and his newly formed group to learn how to cope with the stigma associated with living with a hearing impairment.
They meet at 7pm on the 4th Tuesday of each month in McCarthy Court Apartments Meeting Room, 1325 McCarthy Blvd. All members of the community are welcome to attend! Meetings in 2010 are scheduled for August 24th, September 28th, October 26th, November 23rd, and December 28th.
The HLAA Chapter provides a forum where members provide support, share information and resources, and help each other cope with difficulties. Each month, a guest speaker presents important information about living with a hearing impairment.
For more information about the New Bern Chapter of the HLAA, please call Jerry at 252-635-3381.
Thank you, Jerry, for reminding me how fortunate I am to have my hearing.
