After reading Alderman Dana Outlaw’s article dated September 14th on this blog, I received calls and emails from readers wanting clarification of the City of New Bern’s policy on health insurance for Mayor and Aldermen.
This morning, I called the City’s Director of Human Resources and confirmed that the Mayor and Alderman may opt for a free health insurance plan while in office. If their term exceeds 16 years “they have 3 months after leaving office to exercise this option in writing” for the free health insurance plan for life.
If viewers would like more information pertaining to this issue, they can find details in the City’s Personnel Ordinance.
Thank you for voicing your opinions to New Bern Now!
