With a lot of artists living in our town, New Bern is a city rich in the arts! For a small town, we have so many art galleries, shops, and events! I’m sure that’s why enthusiasts from around the Country flock to New Bern’s art venues.
New Bern’s artists and galleries were even featured in Artsee Magazine! Read “New Bern, beyond the Palace Walls” article by visiting Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corporation’s blog.
I credit the Craven Arts Council and Bank of the Arts as the driving force behind New Bern’s arts scene. They spearhead Downtown Artwalks and numerous shows and events throughout the year!
New Bern art lovers, artists, and visitors look forward to the Downtown ArtWalks! Mark your calendars for upcoming Artwalks scheduled for April 20, May 11, and July 13.
What really happens during Artwalk? People visit the Craven Arts Council or participating businesses and receive a brochure that highlights participating businesses. Artwalks begin at 5pm and people visit the locations, enjoy the shows, meet the artists, and some places even offer beverages and snacks!
Contact the Craven Arts Council for details about upcoming ArtWalks (638-2577). Find out about the participating businesses and restaurants. Visit them at cravenarts.org
Besides artwalks, check out featured artists work at many of the galleries. You’ll also find locals painting “en plein air”.
Are you interested in live performances? There’s always something happening in town. From the New Bern Civic Theatre, RiverTowne Players, Athens Mystery Theatre, Ratio Theatre Company, Eastern Carolina Jazz, Down East Folk Arts Society, Broad Street Social Club, to annual performances presented by local non-profit organizations.
New Bern is a also a perfect place for photographers as the scenery is spectacular in the Croatan National Forest, Downtown New Bern and everywhere in between!
