New Bern Police investigate shooting of 22-year old male and 1-year-old female

Update from the New Bern Police Department on July 7: We are saddened to provide the following update to the shooting incident involving the infant, Nalaoni Sheptock. Last evening, we learned the tragic news that she succumbed to her injuries and had passed while being treated at ECU Health Medical Center. Our investigation has now become a homicide. On Tuesday, July 4, at 9:51 p.m., police responded to a report of two gunshot victims in the 1000 block of Lagrange Street. Officers arrived on scene and located Nathan Sheptock, black male, 22 years-old and Nalaoni Sheptock, black female, 1-year-old, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center. The male was treated and released. The baby was later transferred to ECU Health Medical Center and is currently in critical condition. This investigation is in the early stages. New Bern Police investigators continue to gather additional evidence.
