New Bern, NC – The Craven Community College Lifetime Learning Center (LLC) will present “The Lighthouse of the Orcas” this Friday, Nov. 1, as part of Explorations: The International Film Series.
“The Lighthouse of the Orcas,” a 2016 drama from Spain/Argentina, follows the story of Beto, a Ranger in the isolated Peninsula Valdes’ National Park (Chubut, Argentina). The peace of his days watching sea life ends after the arrival of Lola, a mother from Spain who has brought along her autistic 11-year-old son, Tristán. They are looking for Beto, whom they saw in a documentary film about whales. Desperate, Lola asks Beto to create a therapy for Tristán, hoping that his isolation caused by the autism can be overcome. Beto agrees to help Tristán, sailing by boat along the coast to meet orcas. As days go by, Tristán starts to slowly express emotions. Beto’s boss creates a challenge when he tries to fire him because he has broken the rules by engaging with the orcas.
