A year ago, Craven County was experienced the disaster known as Hurricane Florence. The physical, emotional and spiritual impact of such an event lingers well past the actual dates of that event.
While Eastern North Carolina is indeed a strong community, we can all learn ways of healing ourselves from Florence and possible future events. As the anniversary of any significant loss in our lives can be emotionally taxing, the Emotional, Spiritual and Wellness Committee of the Craven County Disaster Recovery Alliance (CCDRA) is presenting this opportunity to learn about and experience various stress reduction techniques that are available in our own community.
The CCDRA (Craven County Disaster Recovery Alliance) will be hosting “Safe from the Storm” programs on Saturday, September 14. It will be a day for us to demonstrate the resiliency of our community and we will have activities from 12 -5 p.m.
The programs will be held at: The O’Mark’s Building, 233 Middle St.; Bank of the Arts, 317 Middle St.; and Union Point Park.
These will include: Art for Adult and Children including a display of art from Hurricane Florence; relation therapy including yoga and meditation; music and song; a “chaplain’s tent“ for conversation and consolation: and much more. We will also have a resource table for people who are still looking for assistance.
