Bank of the Arts, 317 Middle St

May 2018

Craven Arts Council & Gallery is proud to present “Fusion Poetry:Art” in the Main and Director’s Galleries at Bank of the Arts for the months of May and June 2018. This exhibition features artwork inspired by poetry from local and regional artists. The Arts Council will host an opening reception and award ceremony for the exhibit during the Downtown New Bern Artwalk, May 11th, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

“Fusion Poetry:Art” was inspired by the 2016 Ekphrastic Poetry Competition, where poets where asked to write poems about artworks from the 2016 Bank of the Arts Juried Exhibition. Reversing the order for this exhibit poets were asked to submit their original works in the Fall of 2017, submitting over 200 poems between the Adult and Youth categories. The poems were then posted online for artists to pick from and draw inspiration. Poems will be displayed alongside the works they inspired. In additional to visual art on display, there will also be music and dance performances inspired by the poetry during the reception. Awards will be presented at the reception for poetry, art, and the best fusion of the two. The exhibition will remain up for the months of May and June.
