Craven Smart Start will host a Craven Early Learning Network meeting on Wednesday, April 18th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the University of Mount Olive in New Bern. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and our meeting this month will showcase a community resource that works tirelessly on behalf of abused and neglected children that are involved in the court system at no fault of their own. This resource is the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program for the Judicial District 3B (Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico Counties). Pat Purnell, a long-time GAL volunteer, will be the guest speaker. Ms. Purnell will give an overview of the program and will share information about the role, training and expectations of the GAL volunteer and the impact that the GAL has on the lives of these children. The meeting will include agency sharing and announcements regarding upcoming events for families and children
Craven Early Learning Network collaborative meetings are designed for organizations, groups and individuals who are interested in learning about local resources that can assist families with children, birth to five and in expanding their knowledge about early childhood development and issues that impact “early learners”.
