Eastern Carolina Council Area Agency on Aging will hold three leader trainings in April for Living Healthy, Living Healthy with Diabetes, and A Matter of Balance programs. Each program is an Evidence-Based Health Promotion program. The trainings are open to providers as well as community volunteers who are interested in facilitating the workshops.
Living Healthy is designed for older adults with multiple chronic health conditions. Leaders will help participants learn different tools to help with self-management such as dealing with difficult emotions, exercise, eating healthy, communicating with physicians, and relaxation techniques. Workshops are facilitated by two leaders, once a week for six weeks. Sessions run two and a half hours. Leaders will be trained using the 2012 CDSMP program update!
Living Healthy with Diabetes is designed for individuals who manage diabetes, specifically type two diabetes. Participants learn various self-management tools such as monitoring at home, exercise, meal planning, proper foot care, and planning for sick days. Workshops are facilitated by two leaders, once a week for six weeks. Sessions run two and a half hours.
A Matter of Balance is a falls prevention program that addresses the fear of falling. As we age, many develop a fear of falling. Leaders will help older adults improve self-confidence by teaching exercises that improve balance and coordination, de-cluttering the home, and changing irrational beliefs about falls. Workshops are facilitated by two leaders, twice a week for four weeks. Sessions run two hours.
In order to become certified as a leader, you must attend each day of training. The fee includes the Living A Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions book, relaxation CD, lunch, snacks, and materials.
Please return the registration form with your payment by March 25, 2013. We must have ten people register in order to have the training.

ECCAAA is part of a national network of organizations established to respond to the needs of older adults. ECCAAA plans, coordinates, and develops services for adults aged 60 or greater, family caregivers of older adults, and older adults living in long term care facilities according to mandates in the Older Americans Act. Our agency strives to secure, promote, and provide essential services to enhance the quality of life in a changing society. We meet this challenge through advocacy, coordination, building alliances, and promoting public awareness guided by integrity, vision, and sustained commitment. We serve nine counties: Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico, and Wayne.
