Listen to the interview: Southern Gentlemen’s Barbershop Chorus Annual Songfest.

New Bern Now recently teamed up with Mike Afflerbach, owner of Radio Free ENC’s WNOS 105.9FM and 1450AM to provide “community segments” about local happenings.

Laura Johnson has been my sounding board since the website’s inception three years ago. Now, Laura is the “Radio Voice of New Bern Now”!

Yesterday, Laura and I met Roger Brooks with Southern Gentlemen’s Barbershop Chorus for an interview about their upcoming Annual Songfest event.

During Laura’s interview with Roger, we learned more about the Southern Gentlemen’s special show this Saturday, April 28th. It will kick off at 7:30pm at Grover C. Fields Performing Arts Center, 2000 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., New Bern.

The highlight of this year’s special show is a wonderful guest quartet, The Humdingers. They are a nationally known Chorus out of a major theme park in Orlando, FL. They perform straight ahead singing in four part harmony, soft shoe song and dance, and comedy.

The Southern Gentlemen Barbershop Chorus will be singing along with several of their quartets. In addition, they’ve been promoting barbershop in the local schools. They will have three quartets from two high schools in the Greater New Bern area.

Purchase tickets for $15 in advance at the Bank or from a Member of the Chorus or at the door for $17.

For more information, please call 252-514-0614 or visit their website at www.newbernbarbershop.com.

Special thanks to Roger Brooks for the interview. Laura, you did a terrific job and I really appreciate you stepping up to be the Voice of New Bern Now.
