>New Bern Farmers Market’s features for the Nov. 11 ArtWalk will be author – Karen Dodd, artist – Carl Hultman, musicians – Bill Rogers and Jen Cahoon, “Travelin’ Light”, and hot chocolate and smores by Grandma’s Goodies. Experience shopping local with 40 vendors with handmade unique items under a canopy of twinking lights.
Karen Dodd is a North Carolina native, whose books depict people and places on the North Carolina coast. She started her writing career with weekly newspaper columns and advanced into articles for Our State, several North Carolina travel magazines, as well as, boating magazines. Her last three books, a trilogy of mysteries, take place in New Bern. She has written 2 collections of short stories, two romance novels and four mysteries. Her books are feel-good weekend reads with a “hint of salt air.” She grew up in Morehead City and lived aboard a boat, before moving to New Bern where she and her husband bought a home in Fairfield Harbour. Come by her booth and receive a personal autograph inside the purchase of your book of choice.
Carl Hultman, originally from Erie, PA, now lives in New Bern, NC. He graduated from Cooper School of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. His professional career of Technical Illustrator and Photo Restoration Specialist has contributed to his success in fine art. Owning his own commercial art business for over 35 years, left little time to pursue his passion of fine art. Since retiring from the commercial art field and moving to New Bern, he devotes full time to the art of painting.
In each painting Carl’s goal is to create an emotion of a particular moment in time. He moves freely from portraits to landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and flora paintings, etc. Carl paints both in realism and impressionism. In each portrait he captures the subject’s personality, making each painting unique.
“Jen and Bill from the award winning “Jen & Tonic Band” have teamed up to form an acoustic/electric duo called “Travelin’ Light”. They play a mix of folk, blues, ragtime, and a little Jimi Hendrix when the mood strikes! Jen sings with the passion and soul of artists such as Joss Stone and Susan Tedeschi. Bill plays electric and acoustic guitars in the style of country blues finger pickers such as Mississippi John Hurt. Jen and Bill are both from North Carolina and have been performing together as Travelin’ Light off and on for the past five years.”
