>Craven County Schools and Coastal Community Action, Inc. will be holding registration for four year olds for the More at Four Pre-Kindergarten Program and Head Start program for the 2011-2012 school year in New Bern and in Havelock in the coming weeks. Registration will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011, from 2pm – 6pm in the New Bern Mall and again on June 14, 2011, 9am – 11am at Graham Barden Elementary in Havelock. Parents should bring their child’s official birth certificate, as well as proof of family income. It is not necessary for the child to be present at this registration.
Children must be four years old on or before August 31, 2011 to qualify for More at Four. Head Start accepts younger children as well as four year olds. The More at Four Pre-Kindergarten Program and the Head Start Program are both high quality programs designed for children who may be at risk.
Participants will be selected based on program criteria, which includes family income. Applicants will be notified of the selection at a later date. There is no cost to families who are selected to participate.
More at Four classes are located in various sites across Craven County, including EXCEL Learning Center VII, Child Care Network #77A and Duffyfield Head Start in New Bern; Godette Head Start Center in Havelock; and two public schools in western Craven County, Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary and James W. Smith Elementary. In addition to the Godette and Duffyfield Centers, the Head Start Program in Craven County includes F.R. Danyus Head Start and Charles F. Taylor Head Start, which are located in New Bern.
The Craven County More at Four Pre-Kindergarten Program is supported by the Office of Early Learning of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and by local community organizations, including Craven County Schools, Craven Smart Start, Coastal Community Action Head Start and private child care centers.
