Despite the snowfall overnight, today was a great day for those who participated in the Empty Bowls Fundraiser at Temple Baptist Church in New Bern. Empty Bowls is a joint outreach project by Craven Arts Council and Gallery and Religious Services Community (RCS) to help prevent hunger.
My friend, Patricia “Pat” Moore McDaniel and I were overwhelmed with the beautiful bowls created by area children’s groups and well-known artists. It was hard to make the big decision of choosing one to take home!
After deciding on one, I would see another and put the other one down. This went on for at least 15 minutes! I finally chose one made by local artist and potter, Michaele Rose Watson. Her art shop is located behind New Bern Artworks & Company and the Bank of the Arts at 413B Broad Street, 252-626-0120).
We finally made it to the large gymnasium to enjoy soup made by local church and community groups along with area restaurants. The gym was full of people enjoying soup and chili on this chilly day!
Today’s special fundraiser was a prime example how local businesses, artists, churches, civic groups, and citizens came together to support our community!
