>Carolina Creations Fine Art and Contemporary Craft Gallery, 317 Pollock Street in Downtown New Bern announces their new show “Out in the County.” The show opens during ArtWalk, Friday, July 9th, 5-8 pm., and runs through September 1.
This show features new work by Carol Tokarski and Janet Francoeur depicting life in rural North Carolina, from roosters, hens and landscapes to birds, trees and waterways.
Both artists both received degrees in art from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan and arrived in New Bern in 1989. After meeting that year, they became fast friends and have shown their work together many times.
Since receiving their degrees, both have been involved in the arts, Carol as a painter and arts administrator, Janet as a painter, commercial artist and gallery owner.
Carol is the Executive Director of the Craven Arts Council & Gallery in downtown New Bern. Her large colorful oil paintings of palm trees have been a favorite of local collectors. Her most recent paintings for “Out in the County” are segments of memories from farm life. Subjects are roosters, hens and farm activities.
Carols new work in this show include “Morning Chicken Yard Scratch”, an assortment of chickens in the morning light and “Americana Wakeup”, a rooster crowing. Both pieces are oil paintings.
Janet and her husband Michael own Carolina Creations. Janet has been painting the area since her arrival. She is best known for her watercolors and drawings. For this show, however, she is experimenting with plein air painting in oils as well as clay sculptures for the wall. ”Hanging Out”, – pelicans on a dock, oil painting; “Serenity on Hwy 55” – landscape, oil painting; and “Blackbird and gingko” are a few of her new pieces.
ArtWalk in Downtown New Bern, is every other month from March through November on the second Friday. For more information on this show call the gallery 252-633-4369, email or visit the gallery website.
