A little bit of New Bern Nature Trivia:
Taking a stroll in the Croatan National Forest, I came across a muddy field with “chimney” shaped clay stacks with holes at the top. These stacks were everywhere and my first thought was I may be in the middle of a snake infested area.
To my surprise, I noticed crayfish claws scattered about and I was baffled. I was in the middle of the woods and wondered how the crayfish parts ended up there.
Later, I asked my friend, Jack, what caused the clay stacks and he told me they were made by crayfish (also known as crawdads).
If I don’t learn something new every day, I’m not living.
