>My last visit to New Bern Parks and Recreation sparked my interest in local artisan and recreational events. Honestly, I haven’t participated in any parks or recreational events for neither New Bern nor Craven County until I attended the opening ceremony for the “Neuse River Senior Games”. Seeing how excited our 55+ population was to compete in the Senior Games made me wonder if I would be healthy and vibrant as these seniors in 30 years. Besides facing my future being, the smiling faces made me feel good.
Although this post has nothing to do with the Senior Games, it parallels our community’s acceptance and outreach to our neighbors and their families.
I’m writing to ask you to support Craven County’s Special Olympics by attending the Spring Track and Field events on May 6th, 2010, at Grover C. Fields Middle School, 2000 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. It doesn’t matter if you have a relative, child, friend, or family member with special needs, they’ll receive satisfaction knowing that people are cheering for them and you’ll get satisfaction by seeing the smiles on their faces!
Spend an hour or all day, it doesn’t matter. They will feel a sense of accomplishment for all of their training by simply hearing the crowd cheer for them.
Join over 250 participants from Craven County in an effort to make 2010’s Special Olympics one of the biggest on record! This exceptional event takes place during our 300th Anniversary which celebrates citizens and their accomplishments! For more information, please contact Mark Seymour at (252) 636-6606.
