>First Hand Experience – New Bern’s Tugboat Cruise

>I felt I should write a note to tell you that, based on your suggestion in the New Bern Now Blog; we went in search of Randy Schrock’s Tugboat Cruise in late March. My two young grandchildren, Jonah (3 1/2) and Abigayle (1 1/2) were arriving over Easter and we wanted to book a tour for the whole family.

Luckily, we numbered six, the maximum for the tug, so we were able to customize our tour. We wanted to head up Brice’s Creek, stop at Merchant’s for their yummy hamburgers, and return to the Trent to check out a few homes near the New Bern Golf & Country Club.

Randy met us at the boat promptly and became instant friends with the two youngsters, who clung to him for a large portion of the trip. He is as great with the adults as he is with the children. He was friendly and helpful in getting us ready to depart, dispensing life vests and explaining about the tug and giving us the ‘tour’ that included important information about where we could find the fire extinguisher.

Jonah was thrilled to sit on Captain Randy’s lap or beside him for much of the trip and ‘help’ steer the boat. When Abigayle became tired, Captain Randy offered to clear some extra vests off the comfy V-berth in the bow of the boat. Mom, baby and big brother all three had a little nap after lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise up and down Brice’s Creek and plan to take our next out-of-town guests on a tour with Randy.

He will ‘customize’ the tour to suit your needs when time permits. We won’t hesitate to recommend this great new addition to fun in New Bern to anyone who is looking for something to do. We were so impressed that we went into the hotel to let the front desk clerk know how pleased we were with the trip. Thanks for keeping us informed…you have become our exclusive news source for New Bern and I find I always send a link to the website to anyone who is planning a trip to visit us. Great job!
