Special Fishing Report for New Bern and Pamlico Sound by Spec Fever Guide Service!

Laura Johnson and I took a trip out to Oriental to meet renowned fisherman and area guide, Captain Gary Dubiel, owner of Spec Fever Guide Service.

This was a special occasion for me because I finally had the chance to meet Gary in person. I’ve been living vicariously through him by following him on Facebook.

After contacting Captain Gary a couple of years ago, he has graciously provided numerous fishing reports for New Bern Now.

The greater New Bern area and Pamlico County are surrounded by water so we have all kinds of unique fishing opportunities. From salt water to fresh water fishing, we have the best of both worlds!

Gary told us that there’s great fishing in and around New Bern on the Neuse and Trent Rivers and their tributaries. You’ll catch striped bass, crappie, brim, perch, largemouth bass, and catfish. Catch flounder, sea trout, black and red drum, blue fish, tarpon (six feet long), and bull sharks to mention some of the large variety of fresh and salt water fish.

If you’re seeking a fun and relaxing day on the water or if you’re a serious fisherman; Captain Gary is your “Go to Man”!

“You may have seen him on ESPN 2, WFN, UNC-TV, Versus, the Sportsman Channel, Discovery Channel (Europe), a local or national fishing show, the Saltwater Sportsman’s National Seminar Series, or perhaps in any major sports fishing magazine. Join him for a memorable day on the water and be sure to check out our resources page for all the fine products Capt. Gary fishes with. Fish for red drum (redfish), seatrout, flounder, striped bass, tarpon, false albacore, Spanish and king mackerel, bluefish, black drum, shad, bass, cobia, and yes…more!” – taken from Spec Fever Guide Service’s website.
