Due to increased fire risk, New Bern Fire-Rescue has issued a ban on all open burning and canceled all burning permits for the City of New Bern and its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (Rocky Run, Sandy Point, and Briarwood).
The burning ban went into effect at 12 p.m. May 31, 2019 and will remain in effect until further notice. The City of New Bern and the North Carolina Forest Service will continue to monitor conditions.
This ban prohibits all open burning within the city of New Bern and its ETJ, regardless of whether a permit was issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted.
This ban is a proactive step to protect lives and property by preventing human-caused wildfires.
Any questions related to the burn ban should be directed to New Bern Fire-Rescue at 252-639-2932.
