>Now that we’re officially into the Holiday Season we’re probably already starting to feel guilty about the weight we just know we’re going to gain. We’re also mindful of the local kids who won’t have a very merry Christmas without some help.
The Super Agents at Century21 Zaytoun Raines have voted to sponsor a Food Drive for RCS and the Salvation Army. Plus we’re collecting Toys for Tots. The drop boxes are right in our lobby at 312 S. Front Street. This drive will end on December 15th.
Our local food pantries provided more help this year than ever before, as the economic downturn continued. Hurricane Irene created even more need. In a nutshell, their shelves are nearly bare with Christmas approaching and many hungry families in New Bern who can’t afford to buy groceries.
Do you know what non-perishables a family of four gets for a week?: 2 cans of meat, 1 box of cereal, 3 cans of fruit, 1 box of hamburger helper, 1 box of Mac N Cheese, 1 package of pasta, 2 medium jars of peanut butter, 2 cans of pork and beans, 4 cans of soup, 1 jar of spaghetti sauce and 6 cans of vegetables. That’s it. Imagine!
I hope you’ll throw some of those essentials into your (probably full) grocery cart. Maybe a few holiday treats like candied yams or cranberry relish will sneak in, too.
Alternatively, or additionally, new, unwrapped books & toys, sports and personal grooming items suitable for babies to young teens, can be left in our “Toys for Tots” box.
Thank you in advance for your help. It’s going to make this project a huge success.
