Fishing is plentiful! Some of the water is brackish so you can catch both salt water and fresh water fish, but you may need both licenses, so check the fishing regulations.

The Croatan National Forest is a “Nature Lover’s Paradise” and it’s in our backyard! Discover carnivorous plants like the Venus flytrap, pitcher plant, sundew, along with other exotic plants. The Croatan spans approximately 160,000 acres. It’s home to black bear, deer, wild turkey, quail, coyotes, bald eagles, beaver, bobcats, porcupine, alligator, and other wildlife species. Visit the Ranger’s Station on Hwy 70 E (638-5628).

Fishing Report for New Bern, NC Neuse River striper fishing has been good in the New Bern area with plenty of top water action. Visit the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport in New Bern, North Carolina, to check out the wonderful works of art created by East Carolina University (ECU) students! Four years ago the Craven Arts Council requested that the New Bern Airport partner with the ECU Art Department to design a unique program for Art students to promote their sculptures. Since then, ECU professors have charged their students with creating models to be displayed in front of the Airport. Laura Johnson and I visited the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center of East Carolina (WildARC) today. Executive Director Ellen Westermann and her caring WildARC team of volunteers were extremely busy trying to feed and revive wild animals abandoned after Hurricane Irene swept thru Eastern North Carolina. Volunteer Gail Heller said that WildARC has, “60 – 70 squirrels”, in need of nourishment and rescue. They also had a rabbit, mourning doves, sea gulls, and Jamaica, their resident hawk. Ellen and the volunteers work around the clock feeding the animals every 3 hours. They are currently at maximum capacity for squirrels, so they are […]
