Nestled between the Neuse and Trent Rivers, New Bern is a haven for boaters, fishermen, and watersports fanatics! From large Marinas to off the path boat ramps, you’ll find them here!
Fishing is plentiful! Some of the water is brackish so you can catch both salt water and fresh water fish, but you may need both licenses, so check the fishing regulations.

The Croatan National Forest is a “Nature Lover’s Paradise” and it’s in our backyard! Discover carnivorous plants like the Venus flytrap, pitcher plant, sundew, along with other exotic plants. The Croatan spans approximately 160,000 acres. It’s home to black bear, deer, wild turkey, quail, coyotes, bald eagles, beaver, bobcats, porcupine, alligator, and other wildlife species. Visit the Ranger’s Station on Hwy 70 E (638-5628).

New Bern Parks and Recreation presents a new program designed for children in K-8th grades, It’s Kidsville Club Days. This program is offered on select teacher work days throughout the school year from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Children will enjoy an action-packed day of fun, games and field trips. Participants will receive pizza and drinks for lunch along with snacks. Pre-registration is required. The Annual River Bend Community Day will be on October 26, 2019. Many, many yard/garage sales, Red Caboose Library Book Sale and The River Bend Garden Club Bake Sale (outside of the library). Lists of sales and maps of the town will be given out to “buyers/visitors” to the town at PierPoint development. It will be a big sale day and a lot of fun! New Bern, NC – HistoriCorps, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to engaging volunteers on the rehabilitation of historic structures for public benefit, in collaboration with the Tryon Palace Foundation, return to New Bern for preservation of the New Bern Academy from October 20 – November 15, 2019. HistoriCorps is seeking volunteers to help restore this community resource through this project. All meals, tools, training, and campsite are provided free of charge. The New Bern Walk to End Alzheimer’s enters its seventh year November 3rd again at the Galley Store and Marina East Front Street. Hundreds of walkers have raised over $200,000 from their friends, relatives and business associates across the US to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness, fund research and patient care.
