February 23 – 6 p.m. at The City Stage
This is a very special event – five Habitat for Humanity homeowners (homes #14, 16, 18, 19 and 41) have paid off their mortgages and we are celebrating their accomplishment by symbolically burning their mortgage papers!
One of the common misconceptions about Habitat for Humanity is that we “give away houses to poor people”. In actual fact, we give nothing away but the opportunity for individuals and families to work themselves toward a better future through homeownership. We empower people through shelter as part of our vision of “A world where everyone has a decent place to live”.
This year, Habitat for Humanity of Craven County is also celebrating its 30th year of bringing affordable housing to Craven County. To date, we have rehabbed or built 66 homes, impacting over 105 adults and 120 children. With the celebration of these five homeowners, we now are proud that 16 homes (25%) have been fully paid off. We believe that is truly something to celebrate!
