Statewide Public Media Network Hosts Packed Slate of Activities Tuesday – Saturday, September 4 – 8
North Carolina’s statewide public media network brings its listening tour—Public Media North Carolina CARES (Connecting Audiences with Resources through Education and Service)—to New Bern, Tuesday – Saturday, September 4 – 8. A team of dedicated, inquisitive producers, on-air personalities and behind-the-scenes staff members will be allin, all over New Bern producing stories, meeting with community, business and education leaders and mixing-and-mingling at a casual meet-and-greet.
It’s free and open to the public, so come out, meet the team and share what you want from your public media network. - TUESDAY, 9/4, 10 AM MUSE: The Arts Show Taping—Tryon Palace A team from UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina’s Arts Production team will produce a digital short around the Outlander exhibit at Tryon Palace. Tryon Palace hosts tours this fall featuring the settings of the book and television series Outlander (which will tape at Tryon Palace later this month).
- WEDNESDAY, 9/5, 8 AM – 1 PM—Free & Open to the Public* & Livestreaming New Bern’s Future: Our Place, This Place, Your Place Community Summit—New Bern Riverfront Convention Center Discover some of the models and best practices happening in New Bern, Craven County and the entire region around economic development, community redevelopment and the role of educational institutions, non–profits and volunteers in creating a vibrant community for working and living. Join local partners exploring these and other issues of interest. We will also record interviews for our Faces of New Bern short-form series in the Convention Center’s Board Room. - WEDNESDAY, 9/5, 9:30 AM My Home, NC—Taping at Mitchell’s Hardware UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina’s Heather Burgiss and Miriam McSpadden visit a legendary piece of downtown New Bern that started as a livery stable in 1898 and continues today as a beloved community outpost for just about any need.
- WEDNESDAY, 9/5, 2 – 3 PM—Free & Open to the Public Veterans Summit Panel Discussion—New Bern Riverfront Convention Center UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina’s Military and Veterans Affairs Division Producer Jeff Smith hosts a panel discussion about issues facing area veterans, including homelessness among vets in Eastern North Carolina, and how Craven County veterans groups are working together to solve these issues in the community.
- WEDNESDAY, 9/5, 3 – 4 PM Black Issues Forum Roundtable Taping—New Bern Riverfront Convention Center UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina’s Deborah Holt Noel hosts an afternoon rap session with residents and community leaders to learn more about the contributions of African-American citizens to New Bern and how the region meets their interests and concerns today.
- WEDNESDAY, 9/5, 6 – 8 PM—Free & Open to the Public Meet-&-Greet Event with Producers—The Grill at Prohibition Come join us at The Grill at Prohibition and meet the people who help create and share your stories to the state, nation and world! Join us for an informal gathering at one of New Bern’s popular places for refreshments. - THURSDAY, 9/6, Noon – 5 PM Board of Trustees & Foundation Board Meetings—Tryon Palace Advisory boards for UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina and its foundation go on the road for the first time to meet in New Bern.
- FRIDAY, 9/7, Evening 20 Under 40 Event at The Bank of the Arts/First Friday Art Walk in New Bern A UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina Content team will cover the evenings activities.
- SATURDAY, 9/8, 8 AM Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride A UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina Content team will cover the two-wheeled action.
- FRIDAY, 9/14, 9 AM – 1 PM—Free & Open to the Public Veterans Coffee Event—Stanley-White Recreational Center, New Bern Calling all veterans…chat with Jeff Smith, UNC-TV’s Military and Veterans Affairs coordinator and producer and host of Situation Report, about your needs, share your ideas with us and receive valuable resources. Jeff will host a Veterans Coffee event as part of the Fifth Annual Veterans Stand-Down. Come for free refreshments, hear what’s going on with veterans affairs and have your chance to be heard.
