Craven County Recreation and Parks Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring a Yoga class this fall. Classes will be held weekly at the Vanceboro United Methodist Church. This class is a gentle Hatha yoga class will be starting in Vanceboro on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:00 p.m. The class will emphasize stretching and relaxation techniques for better health, flexibility, stress reduction, and personal energy. It is perfect for those who think they are not flexible enough for yoga. “Think of this class as self-defense against aging,” said Sam Love, the certified Hatha yoga instructor. Special Olympics Craven County, with the New Bern and Tryon Civitans are planning their Craven’s Got Talent fundraiser on Saturday, September 27. This Variety show will feature several local acts, as well as some new and exciting acts to make for a night of affordable, family fun. Tickets for the show are $5.00 and are on sale at various locations in New Bern. Please call for details. 100% of the proceeds go to benefit Special Olympics athletes of Craven County. The show will be held at Grover C. Fields Middle School; the doors open at 6:00 pm and the show starts at 7:00 pm. Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring a youth volleyball league at HJ MacDonald Middle School this fall. Registration is underway for girls ages 8-16 with practice beginning on Saturdays in September and games being played on Sundays starting in October. The Vanceboro Volleyball League, held at Vanceboro Farm Life gym has started registration. Registration fee is $40. Girls ages 7-13 are welcome to play. We are also sponsoring a teen and adult tennis class. Ages 14 & up are eligible to participate. Class is being held on Mondays beginning October 13 at West New Bern Recreation Center. Cost for the class is $45 per person.  Class time is 6:30-7:30 p.m. Space is limited to the first ten to register. Call 252-636-6606 for more information.

Craven County Recreation Department is sponsoring youth tennis lessons beginning October 13. Youth ages 6-13 are eligible for this class. Class times are 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday for four weeks. Cost for the class is $45 per participant. Space is limited to the first ten youth to register with classes being held at West New Bern Recreation Center.
