Snow falls as Santa “Lights Up the Season” in New Bern!

Do we have a great city or what?

Although I live in the outskirts of Downtown New Bern, I enjoy wandering around Downtown, as that’s where a lot of fun-filled events are generated.

Tonight was a classic example of people coming together for the greater good and kicking off the holiday season! Businesses, Residents, and Visitors gathered on Middle Street to welcome Santa and enjoy each others company during the first day of “A Beary Merry Christmas”!

I’m guessing this year’s “Light Up the Season” event brought at least a couple of thousand people to our town!

We really enjoyed catching up with friends and meeting new ones. When a passer by said, “this is a mini-MUMFEST”, I couldn’t help but think that this annual event could spark National attention as MUMFEST has.

We heard many people say they attended the event to see snow and I believed them! Although the snow was re-created by machines and didn’t compare to the snow makers on ski slopes, it still brought out the kid in grown-ups and entertained children who’ve never seen snow.

We would also like to thank the U.S. Marine Corps for joining us during this special event. They were proud to announce their Toys for Tots drive. This annual toy drive truly makes a difference in the lives of local children during the holidays, please visit the Toys for Tots website to find out more.

The Downtown New Bern Council and the New Bern Chamber of Commerce present a “Beary Merry Christmas” along with the A.G. Salem and Associates team who spearheaded the project. Joe Alcoke Chevrolet was the Title Sponsor. See the list of local businesses who’ve made a difference in sponsoring a “Beary Merry Christmas” by visiting their website and Facebook page.
