Here’s what’s happening at the New Bern-Craven County Library in July

July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 – Young Adult Summer Reading Programs.  Each week a new program, with an emphasis on the night…dreams…creatures of the night…starry nights… Free and open to teens who have completed 6th through 12 grades.  Need more information?  Call Krissy Boccia, Young Adult Coordinator, at 252-638-7815 or email kboccia@nbccpl.org

July 4– The Library will be closed in honor on Independence Day.

July 5 – Artist of the Month Reception.  July’s featured artists are members of the Twin Rivers Artists Association. Free and open to the public.  Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.  7:00 p.m.

July 11 – Microsoft Word 2007.  Advanced registration is required.  Conference Room.  2:15 p.m.

July 14 – Edible Book Contest.  You are invited to create an Edible Book and enter it into our contest.  The only rules are it much be edible and somehow must be related to a book!  Entries must be submitted on the day of the contest between 11:30 and 2:00. The public will be voting for the Best Overall Entry from 2 until 3 p.m. on July 14.  Winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m. For more information or to receive a submission form, call the Library at 638-7807. July 16 – Bingo is SO Delicious!  Come play Bingo and win prizes!  Free and open to the public.  Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.  1:00 p.m.

July 16 – Ebay Basics Computer Class.  Advanced registration is required.  Conference Room.  2:15 p.m.

July 20 – Cake Decorating is So Delicious!  Come join Kathleen Forbes, owner of Sweet Pockets, for an hour of deliciousness!  Decorate cupcakes – and then eat them!  Bring a healthy brown bag lunch and we’ll supply the desserts and beverages.  Free and open to the public.  Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.  Noon.

July 21 – Coffee, Donuts and a Movie.  Come enjoy a relaxing morning having a continental breakfast and watching Chocolat.  Starring Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench and Alfred Molina, Chocolat tells the story of a woman and her daughter who open a chocolate shop in a small French village and shake up the rigid morality of the community.  This movie is rated PG-13. Free and open to the public.  Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.  10:00 a.m.

July 23 – “A Novel Idea” Book Discussion Club.  July’s featured novel is “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson.  Spending more that 26 weeks on the N.Y. Times Bestseller List, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” tells the story of a hacker and a journalist investigating the 40-year-old disappearance of a Swedish heiress.  The Club is free and open to the public and the book is available at the Library.  No prior registration is necessary.  Conference Room. 1:00 p.m.

July 23 – Intermediate Internet Computer Class.  Advanced registration is required.  Conference Room.  2:15 p.m.

July 25  – Intermediate Internet Computer Class.  Advanced registration is required.  Conference Room.  2:15 p.m.

July 30 – Wheel of Fortune!  Join Sue and spin the wheel and solve the puzzles and win great prizes!  Free and open to the public.  No registration is necessary.  Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.

July 31 – Read To Me Party!  This party is for all children 12 and under who have completed the Summer Reading Program!  Read To Me Certificates will also be presented at the party.  For more information, call the Youth Department at the New Bern Public Library at 638-7815.  Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.  10:30 a.m.
