>For the third year in a row, New Bern’s National Night Out event has won an award for outstanding participation. The group’s education theme in the 2010 National Night Out event brought out a record-breaking audience of over 3,000 to Union Point Park for an evening of activities and entertainment. This annual event, organized by community leaders who participate in their local community watch groups, showcases local police/community partnerships and is designed to bring increased awareness of crime prevention and the importance of the community at large in this effort.
This year’s event internationally involved 37.0 million people in 15,110 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. New Bern should be proud of its community leaders who ranked among the best in the nation. Why not get involved yourself this next year? The National Night Out Committee for 2011 has already begun planning for the event to take place on August 2, 2011.
Meetings are held the first Thursday of every month, beginning on February 3 and will shift to first and third Thursdays in April. Meeting time is 7 pm at the New Bern Police Department Mall Substation, outside the mall entrance to Belks. Mark your calendars now and plan to get involved in making New Bern safe every day.
