As you make plans for this New Year’s Eve, keep First Night® New Bern 2010 in mind.
Meet at Union Point Park at 2:30 PM for the unveiling of Bear-On DeGraffenreid sponsored by the Historic Downtown Residents Association.
Activities for children ages 3 to 10 will be held at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The fun includes a carnival, Funky Hair Salon, bounce houses, line dancing and many other activities and games. The History Bowl competition will be held here beginning at 3:00 PM. At 6:15 PM a procession led by Jonkonnu will meander over to UnionPoint Park for fireworks.
From 7 – 11 PM enjoy music for all tastes including nationally known blues singer Teresa James, classic country music’s “Southbound 85” plus many local favorites such as Trent River Chamber Players, New Diamond Jubilee Gospel Singers, New Bern Civic Theatre’s Vaudeville Revue, and “Bo Diddley” Matthews. Gary Sheldon, local comedian, will perform at City Hall.
Other venues throughout Historic Downtown New Bern include crafts for all ages, tango and shag lessons as well as history related activities. Join in the procession to Union Point Park for the grand finale and fireworks at midnight. For questions, please send an Email. Tickets can be purchased for $8 ($10 after December 23) on line at www.NewBern300.com or locally at New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce, the visitor’s center at The New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, Mitchell Hardware, The Pepsi Store or First Citizens Bank branches on Martin Luther King Blvd and Highway 70 East. Many events and activities free to all.
